Collection: All About Farm Membership

Worden Farm grows affordable organic vegetables for the community, and works with a wide variety of organizations to promote eco-friendly gardening and farming, and to improve nutrition and help feed those in need.

Seasonal members sustain Worden Farm's organic, regenerative farming and land stewardship, and support the farm's community outreach and education projects for social good. Worden Farm membership is through a farm box program, a farm stand membership, and produce credits.

Seasonal farm membership is for the Fall-Spring growing season in Southwest Florida. Membership is paid in advance of the season, as typical for a CSA farm (learn about Community Supported Agriculture below), to inform crop planning and provide the farm with seasonal "seed money" to cover a portion of the substantial upfront production costs of the upcoming crop cycle.

Worden Farm members share the common goals of land stewardship, fantastic food, and thriving community. Whether you're eating vegan, vegetarian, paleo, keto, or just appreciate fresh, local, organic veggies, the fellowship of members at Worden Farm supports health and wellness for all.

Worden Farm members come from all over: from our town of Punta Gorda and neighboring Port Charlotte and Boca Grande, from nearby cities of Sarasota, Saint Petersburg, Naples, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral, and from smaller nearby towns of Alva, Arcadia, Pine Island, and some are out-of-towners who want to support the work of the farm. Although most farm members have been part of the Worden Farm family for many years, new members also are welcomed each season.

Together we are growing a healthy community!

What is a CSA farm?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and a "CSA" farm is one that has a relationship of commitment between the farmers and their customers, who join as farm members. CSA farming is also described as farm shares, veggie box schemes (in the UK), subscription farms, and farm memberships.

CSA farms are grassroots, and their structures and practices come in many forms, reflecting the needs and preferences of the CSA farmers and the communities that they serve.

CSA farm members receive a periodic, usually weekly, “share” of the harvest. Members enjoy each crop in its prime, eating with the seasons. Being a CSA member means preparing and eating plenty of fresh, healthy, unprocessed foods.

CSA farm memberships typically are paid at the start of each planting season. This provides the farm with some operating capital for the year's production, and helps the farmer to plan the planting amounts and harvest schedules.

CSA farm members share both the risks and rewards of the farm. In the event of a complete crop failure, such as from a hurricane or major freeze, the members agree to take the loss with the farmer. However, CSA members at most well-established CSA farms eat well every season, even with challenging weather conditions, because of the experienced farmers' careful planning and high level of skill in crop production.

While getting the freshest, most nutritious produce, CSA farm members also:

  • know where, how, and by whom their food is grown
  • invest their food dollars for a strong local economy
  • reduce environmental impacts of food production, transportation, and packaging
  • promote sustainable agriculture and food security
  • preserve local farmland by keeping agriculture viable
